Two fish, one breath
Liuli — Chinese crystal glass — is cast by the lost-wax method. A wax model is encased in plaster, burned out, and replaced by molten glass fired at 1400°C. As it cools over days, the material decides its own gradients of colour.
Two carp circle each other once more, frozen mid-turn — a homophone for abundance, a wish that doubles itself.

The lost-wax process destroys its own mould with every casting — the wax original is gone the moment the glass arrives. This pair of fish swam out of the only mould that ever existed.
“The mould is ash; the fish remains.”
